Can you use a old transducer with a new fishfinder unit? This was a question asked of me recently and I needed to find out for myself. I did some home work on this most awesome fishfinding tool and this is what I found out.
The Garmin 400c Fishfinder unit includes a transom mount, but it can also be used with a in-hull transducer or a thru -hull transducer. The dual beam allows you to view at a 45 degree angle, and provides you with alarms that inform you of fish beneath the waters. It comes equipped with a swivel bracket, which allows you to view the screen from different areas of the boat.
The Garmin 400c Fishfinder/ Dual Beam Transom Mount is also a very affordable unit, and provides the same dual beam technology as the 160c, yet it can reach depths up to 900 feet. It also works best in the fresh waters, and has a keypad that lights up for the night fisher man. It can be attached to in-hull, and thru- hull transducers as well.
The Garmin 400c / Dual Frequency Transom Mount is a little different than that of the Dual Beams, as this unit works better in the salt waters, and reaches depths up to 1500 feet. It also can be interchanged with a thru-hull or in-hull transducer.

It’s 4 inch color screen provides day and night visuals for the avid fisherman, and the zoom screen splits so that fish and terrain appear much closer. The Garmin 400c Fishfinder with out a Tranducer, and the Garmin 300c Dual Beam offer much the same as it’s counterparts.
