Bottom Line Fishing Buddy 1101 December 10, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased a reconditioned unit 2 years ago to use in my canoe. Cost was under $70. Until my trip to Quetico Provincial Park I was disappointed. The narrow cone provided little information in shallow NM/AZ lakes (under 10 feet). Backpack - canoe fishing in Canada revealed this units strength. It is light, portable and has long battery life. The unit clearly identified water temp, lake depth, bottom profile and depth to concentrations of fish. I attribute my success to some very good lake trout fishing at depths 90 to 100 plus feet to this unit. Lake bottom profiles were very complex. With only a week to fish, I really doubt that I would have otherwise located these allusive trout. I went to Ontario specifically to try my hand at Lake Trout. This modest unit made the difference between success and failure. Downside? The mounting system is plastic, flexible and likely fragile. It didn't let me down but I watched the assembly closely. Even at paddle speeds, the mounting bracket flexed. I tied a light safety line to my fishing buddy just to be safe.
