Starting up can seem like a slow business, particularly if you're in a hurry, because the GPS receiver needs to know exactly where each GPS satellite is to calculate your location. But satellites only broadcast their positions once every 30 seconds. So if any of their signals are interrupted, for example by passing high buildings, the whole position-fixing process has to repeat itself again and again until the perfect fix is achieved. QuickGPSfix takes a smarter approach.
QuickGPSfix can speed up the time it takes to fix your GPS position by downloading the latest satellite data via an Internet connection. Note: QuickGPSfix data has limited validity. So to keep on getting a faster position-fix, re-connect your device at least once a week.
To minimise the amount of data sent over your wireless data connection, this automatic update is only carried out if the data on your device is over 5 days old. The associated data usage of this service is less than 10 Kb per connection. Please contact your mobile service provider to determine the exact costs. To disable this automatic update, just select `Disable Auto QuickGPSfix' on your TomTom device.

Portable, easy, TomTom fixed speaker volume August 21, 2008I like the Easyport Mount. It's much better than an additional clunky thing to pack when bringing your GPS along through the airport.
The GPS itself works just fine -- regular TomTom. I do find the computer generated voice (required to speak street names) harder to understand than Garmin's.
My initial 130S had the volume too soft problem. What finally did it for me was when I discovered that adjusting the volume made no difference to actually what came out of the speaker for the computer generated voices. It did affect the pre-recorded voices, but not the one you're paying the extra $50 for. TomTom issued an RMA and exchanged it for a new unit. This one works properly and can in fact be cranked up to be too loud.
Great GPS August 18, 2008This was one of the best purchases that I have ever made. A lot of people complained about the mounting kit and volume of the GPS. The mounting kit is better than any other mounting kit. Just put it on your window and turn it to tighten. It's rock solid. The disk they give you for the dash will not stick but that's nothing that some double stick tape will take care of. The volume of the GPS is fine. I think that people have issues because under the Volume preferences menu gives the option to "Link volume to car speed." Maybe that is where people are having problems? I really like this Tom Tom because it's small and compact. It get's the job done and at a great price. If you need more options I'd upgrade to a higher version of a Tom Tom. For a "Beginner" GPS it has all of the essentials. Points of interest, easy to use and get's me from point A to point B.
tomtom 130 August 17, 2008My first GPS. At first, I tested it and it did not get me home. Then I took a real trip to Dayton Ohio. I think it was too complicated. It got me there but I thought I was going around in circles. When I changed the route, it immediately recovered. I punched in my friends address and it wanted me to go right by for another mile. I don't think you can rely on it completely. It gets you close but no cigar. When I'm going somewhere, I always get a map just to make sure. It took me right by my hotel in Columbus Indiana. Fortunately I could see it.

Great GPS August 11, 2008I love having a GPS; this one is a really good GPS for the money.
I like:
1) It doesn't go crazy when you deviate from the route - it just recalculates.
2) Choice of voices, even without going online
3) Lots of points of interest
4) Easy to use
5) On major roads, it not only displays your speed, but also the speed limit, highlights red when you're 4+ miles over the limit, and displays your ETA - recalculating all the time.
I'm not crazy about:
1) It doesn't speak road names (not worth extra $ for this feature, though, for what I need)
2) It seems to do some strange routing at times.
Overall, if you need a basic inexpensive GPS, this is it.
