Product Description The Magellan TrafficKit for the Maestro 4040 and 4050 enables your device to receive live traffic information and help you adjust your journey based on incidents. There is no installation required and a 3-month service subscription is included. The TrafficKit receives traffic reports from NAVTEQ NavTraffic and sends them to your Magellan Maestro 4040 or 4050, which uses this information to make advanced calculations adjusting the time and distance to destination and re-calculating your route if a quick way is available. On-screen icons show the location of traffic problems such as accidents, road construction, lane reductions, slow-downs, narrowed roads and more.

Great Vendor Great Product October 31, 2008 At half the price of Magellan's website. Brand new and it was here in a week. Fantastic.
Magellan TrafficKit is Useless in Phoenix October 25, 2008 Making sure that Phoenix was one of the covered areas, I purchased this to help guide us through Phoenix traffic (which is about as bad as any other major city) in the event of a problem on our route. After purchasing the year subscription, I installed it in my vehicle, powered it up, saw the icon in the bottom right corner (which is not there without the traffic kit attached) and tested it out. I also checked the signal strength which read a 10/10 and saw that NAVTEQ was providing the traffic information. I then listened to traffic reports on the radio, along with verifying the traffic reports on my PC on a site that displayed and verified traffic conditions (also provided by NAVTEQ), routed the Maestro to take me on a route which would guide me right through a listed and broadcast traffic problem. Driving that route, the little icon remained as is, with the green triangle, checking the text screen on the Maestro about the traffic status, it claimed no reported traffic problems just as I could already see the backup on the highway. Calling Magellan customer support gets the same results as if I would ask my dogs the same question. Reaching some offshore center, the idiots that I talked to were very intent on getting my name, adddress, etc.,etc., but when it came time to discuss the problem, it was obvious that they didn't have a clue on how to help, if they even understood what I was asking them. I can now understand why some of the biggest 'big box' stores are clearing out their Magellan products and selling others instead. So if I am doing something wrong with the programming, I will have to find how how to remedy it myself as Magellan sure as hell doesn't know how to discuss the issue, let alone help me with it. If you buy one of these Check with the store you get it from concerning their return policy and use the 3 month free subscription (which should be included with the Traffic Kit) to see if yours works. Live and learn.
don't bother with this October 3, 2008 Bought this for my Magellan GPS. I hate it. I still use it while I wait to buy a new one. With out this traffic kit the GPS unit send you on some stupid routes, some times they are just crazy. This kit just adds to it confusion in calculating the routes. I use it just to see the traffic details, they are not even accurate.
If you use it to automatically route based on traffic details you will be taking stupid routes, maybe even go around in circles.
There are better options. I would get lost less just using the maps in rental cars.
No Traffic Alerts in Atlanta! July 22, 2008 Although the Traffic Service is supposed to work in Atlanta, I have yet to see a single traffic alert. I would have given this one star except that it is a required optional accessory if you want to use an external antenna with the Maestro and for that it works as advertised.

this product worked wonderfully to get me thru LA traffic on vacation. I would recommend this to anyone that is thinking of travelling thru a major city and is unfamiliar with the area.
