The Explorist 500LE utilizes a bright, 2.25-inch, 16-color backlit display that makes it easy to read maps and information under any lighting conditions. Intelligently designed for comfortable right or left handed use, the 500LE's clearly marked keypad provides one-touch access to all its most important features. The built-in joystick controller makes scrolling the simple menus fun and easy, while four navigation screens provide you with easy-to-use map, compass, locator, and satellite status information. These customizable navigation screens instantly show your location, speed, direction, distance to your destination and more, just the way you want it.

The Explorist 500LE comes pre-loaded with a color basemap of North America that shows major roads, parks, waterways, city centers, airports and many other major points of interest. The built-in high-speed USB port makes it easy to add detailed MapSend maps, for additional topographic or marine navigation, and turn-by-turn street guidance, as well as downloading coordinates from your PC. This unit also lets you store up to five track logs, 20 routes and 500 points of interest to its 16 MB of available internal memory, as well as store an unlimited amount of data on your own SD cards, so it improves with use. What's more, the Magellan Geocache Manager enables you to download and organize coordinates from the Internet directly to your the Explorist 500LE. This unit features a vertical profile that lets you view graphical elevation changes for where you have been or are going, and a simple PC-style file system that makes it easy to organize and access all your stored data.
