Amazon.com Product Description
The Cobra Li4900-2WXVP MicroTalk GMRS/FRS 2-Way Radios make it easy to stay in touch with someone, wherever you may go. This rugged pair of radios is an outdoorsman's best friend, with plenty of range, features, and power to make sure that you don't get separated from the rest of your party in any terrain.

The Li4900-2WXVP MicroTalk radios use the UHF/FM band for ultra-clear, long-distance reception with an extended range capability that reaches up to 18 miles, depending upon the terrain. These units feature an illuminated LCD display that is easily visible at a glance even at night, 10 separate call alerts to differentiate between incoming callers, and an on/off selectable roger-beep tone that indicates the completion of other transmissions so you know when it is ok to talk. These radios also feature an auto squelch with a selectable maximum range extender that overrides the auto squelch for longest-possible reception, a keystroke tone signal that confirms key activation, and a patented VibrAlert for silent incoming calls in noisy or all-quiet environments. Additionally, the Li4900-2WXVP radios include 10 NOAA channels for full coverage of all government operated NOAA weather broadcasts, a scan function to locate conversations in progress, and a 10-channel memory for programming favorite channels or channel/privacy code combinations for easy retrieval.

The Cobra Li4900-2WXVP radios provide seven GMRS/FRS, seven FRS and eight GMRS channels for a total of 22 channels, all of which are easily accessed via the front panel's push buttons. When combined with the units' 121 privacy codes, users have a choice of up to 2,662 sub-channels to ensure privacy. These radios are built with a unique circuit that automatically switches to battery-saver mode if there are no transmissions within 10 seconds, thereby extending the battery life, and let you choose between High and Low power settings (GMRS only) to either maximize range or further extend your battery life. What's more, they come with a belt clip to secure your radios while you are on the go, and include a key lock that eliminates accidental channel changes. For added convenience, these MicroTalk radios include a VOX function with five selectable levels of sensitivity, which will detect the user's voice and transmit without the need to press any buttons, freeing your hands for other tasks.

The Li4900-2WXVPs each run on a rechargeable, lithium-ion battery, and come with a two-port desktop charger that allows you to recharge the batteries in both radios at once. Each radio has a built-in speaker/microphone/charger jack that lets you not only recharge batteries while in the unit, but use earphone speaker/microphone combinations for hands-free operation. Constructed to be water resistant for improved outdoor reliability, the Cobra Li4900-2WXVP MicroTalk Radios weigh only 3.2 ounces (without batteries), measure 2 x 5.5 x 1.5 inches (W x H x D), and are backed by a manufacturer's one-year warranty.

What's in the Box
Two Li4900-2WXVP MicroTalk radios, two-port desktop charger, two rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, user's guide and warranty information.

3 out of 5 stars Radios OK, but.....   April 17, 2008
Bought these radios to use during a conference we hold where several of us have to keep in contact. The radios worked quite well, even in a larger facility with all kinds of other interference and even in areas where the other radios wouldn't.

But as someone else noted, the belt clips are pretty worthless. They are not spring loaded, just hard rigid plastic that you have to carefully pry apart to get on your belt. I broke the first one just putting it on my belt the first time, and broke the other one later in the day even after being very careful with it.

All in all good radios, as long as you don't mind carrying them in your pocket or purse.

5 out of 5 stars Cobra - the BMW of radios   February 8, 2008

I bought these radios for a cruise to keep in touch with my wife, they worked great. Before we left I tested them by having my son take them on a trip to the other side of town. We were each indoors and could still talk from about a mile apart. On the cruise ship, they always worked even when we were 9 decks and the length of the ship apart (and inside). My only grip would be, I would like to see the set come with two chargers so that if you wanted to permanently keep the radios apart you could. Otherwise, I don't think you can go wrong with these. They have many features, most of which you probably won't even need. The buttons are precise and well organized. The unit looks and feels like a quality item.

3 out of 5 stars Another 2 mile radio   January 26, 2008

Forget about the 18 mile range. These radios will give you 2 miles max - if that! Otherwise they are pretty good. Good voice quality and nice feel to them. The belt clips are really weak though. One of mine has already broken. Not really able to use the belt clips as they are too stiff. There is also a slight delay in voice reception so you should remember to wait 2 seconds after pressing the transmit and then talk. Nice charger and quite a few useful functions like the vibrate and weather radio stations.

4 out of 5 stars Practical Radios   December 14, 2007

These radios work great for the way we use them. We use them on a hi-powered station at Wal-Mart, the mall, etc. They did not perform as well on the low power stations. On hi power, they worked perfectly at Disney World. Even my wife admitted that these little radios came in handy. We are pleased overall.

1 out of 5 stars We sent them back they worked so poorly!   November 2, 2007
Do not buy these two-way radios. We took them on a 2000 mile RV trip, so we had plenty of time to use them. We finally gave up and threw them in the glove box in frustration. The talk button is a soft button about 2" long, on the side of the unit, and unless you press it in exactly the right spot and at exactly the right pressure, it does not work. Maddening, to say the least.
