4 out of 5 stars great device, great price   November 17, 2007

This is a great little GPS receiver. I used it with my iPaq 2700 series with built in CF slot and it works great. The included GPSViewer software made it easy to find the right COM port (COM6 on the iPaq). I bought it to do some performance comparisons between various handheld GPS units and this one performed well compared to the pricier Garmin and Socket bluetooth devices. It's really a great device if you're not looking for a bundle that includes maps.

Compared with bluetooth GPS units I've worked with this unit has some obvious advantages including no separate unit to charge, no loss of connection when either device powers down, and only one unit to keep track of. The antenna connector allows you to have some stand-off distance so you can still use a unit like this in a car without having the handheld sit on the dashboard.

When using this GPS with a handheld, keep in mind it takes up a whole CF slot so if you want to store maps or other data, make sure you have enough on board storage or another free card slot.

All in all, a great device for a great price.

This is my third GPS unit from Holux. They have always worked way above expectations. Locks onto the signal fast and stays locked on. The only problem is that the documentation is worth crap. If you don't get it to work first time it will take some tinkering due to the fact the instuction manuel is non existent.

4 out of 5 stars Good Product   February 15, 2007

I got this unit from another site. It's pretty good. Easy setup and run. I used different GPS map software Pharos Ostia & Destinator without any problem. Works great. I'm using AXIM 51v, com port 4. U even can use WM5 GPS function, let it support more than 1 GPS software. Good Product @ fair price.

1 out of 5 stars Terrible interface and operability   January 23, 2007

I bought this receiver with a basic knowledge of how GPS works and how my PDA works.

I have a Dell Axim x51. The GPS receiver program loaded onto the PDA through active sync with no problems. The problem was in getting the receiver to connect to the PDA. It plugs in and seats itself in the CF slot very nicely. However you have to select which port you want to connect to manually. I do not know which COM port the CF card is, but after resetting it with every different port, it still did not connect. The receiver was getting a signal because the external indicator light was indicating a signal, it just wouldn't communicate with the PDA.

There is little to no documentation that comes with the unit, and the company's website is lacking of any useful support. There are no instructions to speak of that come with it, just a 2-3 page (3" x 3") index card pamphlet.

I would return it, but I still want to tinker with it a bit more. If I had to choose again, it wouldn't be this unit, let alone anything from this company.
