Exceeded expectations August 13, 2008 1 Used it with TomTom on Palm TX 2 Quickly locked on sat signal. When it did loose the signals in tunnels it re-aquired the signal once I was out of tunnels pretty quickly. Worked reasonably well around tall buildings (Baltimore downtown). 3 Battery stays charged for long time. 4 Included car charger was a goodie I used a lot (specially on long trips) 5 Auto shutoff was another feature i liked on this receiver
What I didnt like 1 Manually shutting it off using the power button takes few seconds more than you expect. 2 The blinking lights are distracting (but once you get used to them they don't bother much)
Great While It Works January 13, 2008 PRO: Lightweight receiver-only connecting via bluetooth to anything. Great SiRFIII picks up of multiple birds in less than optimal conditions. Fast warm, fairly fast cold. Accuracy good for driving purposes. Good battery life and can buy multiple batteries for walking use. In reference to another reviewer, GlobalSat out of Taiwan, the manufacturer, has posted software for testing the unit in both 32-bit and 64-bit Vista. I'm not sure what other software would be expected since this is a receiver-only unit and you use whatever software you have installed on your laptop or handheld device and connect it via bluetooth for location data. Cons: Where to start? I use the BT338 (Black model) with a laptop (Vista)and also Dell Axim x50v running Windows Mobile 5. Both connect via bluetooth. I use iGuidance, ESRI ARCPad, ESRI ARCInfo, and the manufacturer's own GPSInfo test software. I have re-paired the bluetooth connection on both the laptop and handheld and they pair with the BT338 and assign a COM port with a serial connection as required for the BT338. It no longer works. The GPS side has died. I have removed the battery for over twelve hours as customer support recommends to "reset the ROM." Google the read forums on this device and see what people are experiencing as they troubleshoot the same problems between themselves and the company in Taiwan that makes it. Bottom line: I use this device with different hardware platforms and different software and the GPS, not bluetooth, side of the BT338 has reliability issues. Don't buy it!
Works as Advertised on WM6 Smartphone October 5, 2007 Works as advertised on Motorola Q9M running WM6. An added plus, the thin rubber strips on the back keep it in place on my dashboard.
My one-star rating is not correct; unfortunately, Amazon will not allow the rating to be changed. I rate this as five stars.
Beware of no support for Vista June 30, 2007 No drivers are supplied for Vista so one has to spend few hours on just finding third party software to get it running. Sadly most of the software is not even free, so this Taiwanese vendor doesn't look very serious to me as they fail to support latest OS which is out for half year now. The latest software on the vendor page is over one year old for this model!
Another awkward thing is that it cannot be configured in any way - blinking light to me is a sign that something is wrong rather than connection is ok (BT steady light starts blinking when it catches satellite). The on/off button is located at very top of the device so it is really easy to switch it off accidentally when picking it up when it is in the leather case.
The reception works well in open space yet it has trouble to catch more than 2 satellites in some office buildings even when held next to the window.
Exceptional Everything December 3, 2006 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I was amazed at the signal strength and aquisition time for this unit. I use it with my Palm TX, and TomTom software. I had problems with the original TomTom bluetooth device (without the SiRF chip) I'm so glad it broke. The price is good for the convenience and performance. Battery life is also really good, I use it everyday and haven't charged it for 2 weeks now. Which reminds me...
