Amazon.com Product Description Stay connected with your buddies while hiking on the trail, riding the ski lift, or exploring other locations within a 6-mile range with this three pack of GMR638 two-way radios. Also ideal as a neighborhood watch tool and workplace aid, each radio features 22 channels (15 GMRS and 7 FRS) and 38 privacy codes, along with a voice-activated transmitter that enables hands-free communication when used with an optional HS 2467 headset and microphone. The impressive range of channels and privacy codes gives you several communication options, ensuring that you can almost always talk with friends or family via an exclusive, uninterrupted signal (radios must be set on the same channel and code to communicate). Browsing for channels is straightforward and intuitive thanks to the scan feature, which looks for active channels while you view the display, and the monitor function, which listens for weak signals on a given channel. To transmit on a GMRS or FRS channel, merely press the PTT button while the scan is paused. It's important to note that the transmission range will vary depending on the channel and the surrounding terrain. Additional features include a backlit LCD display with a battery strength meter, a keypad lock that keeps you from accidentally pressing buttons at the wrong time (such as when a radio is in your pocket), a roger beep that indicates the end of a transmission, and your choice of five different call tones. The radios also come with two charging cradles (one with two slots) that can accommodate all three radios at once, three NiMH rechargeable battery packs, and three belt clips for efficient transport. The entire bundle is backed by a one-year warranty on parts and labor. What's in the Box Three GMR638 two-way radios, three belt clips, one dual charging cradle with AC adapter, one single charging cradle with AC adapter, three rechargeable NiMH batteries, user's manual. Note: Use of the General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) frequencies requires a Federal Communication Commission license. Not sure if it covers 6 miles January 4, 2007 works fine within apt complex. But when I tried using it on the road, I couldnt hear the voice when I was 2 miles away
poor January 3, 2007 Found these radios to have very poor reception even within a half mile of open, flat land. Sorry I purchased them, suited more for childrens back-yard play.
Works for us! November 10, 2006 I like that there are 3 units in this pack. My 6-yr-old granddaughter lives next door to us. She'll use the radio to let us know she is coming over. Because of the trees that line our lot, I can't see her until she clears them. I can't get a 6-mile range out of these where we live but they work great for short distances!
Good value to the price November 10, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was a little worry when I bought the product. Because it's price is much lower than similar products. It turns out working great for my purpose (tracking my son in the subdivision).
What a mess! November 10, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
What a mess! I don't know what to say. 6 miles? not even half a mile!! As simple as that.
Thanks!!
