Grandson loves Fishing December 2, 2008 Fishing Basics I bought it for our Grandson who saw it at his school library and really liked it. He loves fishing at the age of 8. Spends hours at our pond or at the lake.
Great Book, Get it August 27, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had lots of fun reading this book, the illustrations are great. I have been fishing for a couple of years, but learned a lot form this book. This is a must have if you are new to fishing. Ps. it only takes a couple of hours to read the whole book.
Not very good for beginners, seems outdated July 15, 2008 I just began fishing. I purchased this book at a great price and in excellent condition from Amazon, but was not impressed by the contents. The diagrams are confusing and the material just seems outdated. This did not help me at all learning to fish.
This is a helpful book June 23, 2008 I recently took up fishing after 20 years of avoiding the outdoors. I found that I really enjoyed fishing with my young son but I didn't know anything about what lures to use or how to tell where the fish were in the water. The chapters on where to fish and how to read structure are very helpful. The chapters on different fish and what lures they bite are also very helpful. Using the information on how to read the water and what lure to use, I selected a fishing spot and landed a bass within 5 minutes.
Not too bad, but there are better books out there January 20, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The second half of the book (chapter 6 and forward) is OK. It's objective and useful. But the way the first half is presented is confusing and left me with a lot of questions. The basics of fishing techniques and tackle are not organized in a very intuitive way. I had to buy another basic book (The Complete Idiot's Guide to Fishing Basics) to get a better idea and have my questions answered. The explanation on when and where to fish is pretty decent, though. Towards the end of the book, however, two chapters are wasted with instructions on how to make your own lures. I think that belongs in another book.
