The watch that started it all! Suunto's original Wristop Computer, the Vector changed the face of sport watches forever with its groundbreaking combination of features, including an altimeter, barometer, electronic compass, digital log book, and watch. Amazon.com Product Description
Designed for the mountaineering, outdoor traveller, this hardy wrist-mounted computer provides all the information you'll need for any adventure, including a digital altimeter, barometer, compass, thermometer, and a regular watch. It's backlit for easy viewing, and water resistant down to 100 feet below surface.

The altimeter includes functions showing current altitude up to 29,500 ft/9,000 m, and your ascent/descent rate in feet or meters per minute. Its difference measurement function allows zeroing of the altimeter for following your vertical progress between various destination stages, and the automatic 24-hour memory stores your altitude and ascent/descent rate for every hour continuously, with a logbook that stores total ascent/descent, average ascent/descent rate, and even the number of runs you've skied for the duration of the log.

The barometer provides absolute pressure range from 8.90 - 32.40 in Hg / 300 - 1100 mbar, and sea level pressure range 27.25 - 31.90 inHg / 921-1080 mbar. You'll also get 0.05 inHg / 1 mbar resolution, and a difference measurement function that allows zeroing of the barometer for following overnight changes in barometric pressure and temperature. There's also an automatic 4-day memory--which can store pressure information in one hour intervals for the last six hours, then in six hour intervals after that--and a handy, adjustable, sea-level pressure function.

The compass function includes bearing in degrees and cardinal or half-cardinal point, a North-South arrow, and a bearing tracking function which displays locked bearing, actual bearing, and the difference between these declination adjustments. There's also a bubble level to indicate level position to ensure +/- 2-3 degree reading accuracy, and a declination adjustment. The watch function provides a basic 12/24 hour clock, a calendar pre-programmed to 2089, 3 daily alarms, and a stopwatch and countdown timer that both run for 23:59:59 hours. You'll also get a thermometer, and the watch comes with a user-replacable battery. All this is packed into a 1.9 oz. device.

4 out of 5 stars Faulty straps!   January 8, 2009
I purchased this watch because I am in the military and its a must have however, less than 2 days after recieving this item the screws for one of the straps fell off. It could be that I should have ajusted them when I recieved it but being built to some degree of military specs I thought all I'ed need to do is jump on and enjoy the ride. So my end state is that it has to be shelved until I order the screws, what a drag! Oh, and by the way I'm from Trinidad and Tobago work the maths!

1 out of 5 stars Suunto Vector, Complete Letdown!   December 12, 2008
Honestly, for me, the watch is a disappointment. I should have paid more for a better model from a different company.
Cheap construction and a bad sensor for the temp. They should put a crystal in the face, or atleast some higher quality material. I have had it for a month and it is already a mess.
I have always had my eye on a Suunto and when I finally bought one it turned out to be a waste of money!

5 out of 5 stars Perfect for the rain forest   September 16, 2008
I just returned from spending two plus weeks in the rain forest in coastal British Columbia. This watch worked perfectly. It was critical to have the thermometer altimeter and the barometer. I was able to use topographical maps and the watch to know where I was on the mountain. I was also able to leave the rock face when the barometer predicted incoming rain. This piece of equipment (far more than a watch) was critical to the success of the expedition.Suunto Vector Wrist-Top Computer Watch with Altimeter, Barometer, Compass, and Thermometer

2 out of 5 stars Unreadable within two weeks   August 11, 2008
The watch worked great for about two weeks, then became unreadable. I am in the process of returning it... so will see how their warrenty policy holds up.

2 out of 5 stars Negative display is POOR   June 27, 2008
2 out of 2 found this review helpful

As a previous reviewer has pointed out, the older Vectors utilized a positive display, with the numbers in black and the lcd background a grey color. The most recent Vector I purchased on Amazon came with the negative display, which is simply the opposite ... the numbers being grey on a black background. Since the brightness of the grey numbers cannot be increased to stand out better against the black, it makes it ridiculously difficult to read in many lighting conditions. Turning on the backlight helps, but to do that you have to hold the light button down for 2 seconds before it responds. What a pain. The functions of the watch are great, however. Just note there is a steep learning curve to understanding the buttons. A read of the manual is a must.

After purchasing the Suunto Core (Light Green), I have to admit there is no comparison really. The Core is much easier to use, easier to read, more comfortable to wear. The only disadvantage of the Core may be its durability for such a thin and lightweight housing. But so far it's held up to everything I've put it through.
