Great Item January 8, 2009 The Navigon is pretty cool just a few minor cons to it so here are the pros and cons.
Pros: Lane assistant and reality view is great while driving. It lets you know exactly where you are suppose to be. It has adjustable volume. It has a lot of point of interest to choose from.
Cons: The touch screen sometimes does not pick up your first touch. The battery life is short. There is no Wall adapter. You have to adjust how to put in addresses.
I would still say the pros way out weigh the cons though.
Solid product that works well January 8, 2009 This is my first GPS unit and I have been using it for 3 weeks now. So far I find it to be very reliable if a bit quirky.
The screen has a very nice resolution and the audio is plenty loud enough to hear even over my stereo. I love the turn by turn directions with street names, distance, direction of turn, etc. Very helpful and very accurate. Also very nice is the 3-D view of highway exit signs/lanes that pops up where applicable. Very helpful in knowing exactly what lane to get into and how to use the exit properly.
The screen displays a ton of information, actually, and I like this feature. Others may not, however, as it might seem cluttered and it could be a bit hard to read for some. It warns you if you are speeding but you can control this feature if it bothers you.
Text to speech works well but it is time consuming to use as you have to speak after prompts. I have not used it too much but I probably will in the near future.
The touch-screen works just fine for me but it has a different sensitivity than I am used to. Once I adjusted the settings a bit and got used to how it wanted input, it was fine and I have no issues with it.
Bluetooth works fine but my GPS unit is a bit far from my driving position so people could not hear me too well. Maybe that has to do with this device...I cannot say. It is not a feature I will use too often.
A bit less exciting to me was the menu system. It is not that intuitive overall although it is functional for most things. I wish that there was a better way to alter a route once you have begun navigation along that route. Or maybe there is but I have not found it yet. Usually you will tell it where you want it to take you and it will plan the route. You can tell it to avoid or forbid certain types of roads (toll roads, etc.) but I have found that it does not always play nice with the parameters I give it.
Nevertheless, it gets me where I want to go. The traffic updates are nice (and free for life) but I am not sure how helpful they will be most of the time. I need to play with the re-route feature someday to see how it decides to avoid traffic that is sees.
One other complete oddity...my unit shipped with a soft carry case that was about 1/2" too small to fit the unit. That made little sense but, fortunately, I had also purchased the hard carry case. It does come with a screen protector and I found that out too late...I had already bought a pack of 5 and applied one of them before I even noticed it. Oops.
Overall, I really enjoy the product and it works as well as expected. There are quirks but because this is my first GPS, I am not able to evaluate how those quirks stack up versus competing models.
7200 T January 7, 2009 This is our first GPS unit and it worked great right out of the box. There are trade-offs no matter what unit you by, this has everything I need. Yes, you do have hold the off button for 8 seconds and it takes about 40 sheets of paper to download the manual at 4 pages per sheet, but there are alot of features for the money.
pretty sweet! January 7, 2009 This little gadget is pretty cool... maps out a route within 30 seconds of entering the address. I've had a few occasions when it took 5 minutes when on the freeway (I'm guessing driving too fast didn't allow the gps to sync as smoothly as when you drive slower). The touch screen sometimes needs to be tapped a little harder. The traffic information is a great feature that is completely free on the device, but I think it might be a good idea to purchae the traffic info activation as well, b/c the free version doesn't tell how bad the traffic is, so you might end up taking a detour when the 'traffic' you were warned against is only a 10 minute delay.
One of the best and most versatile January 7, 2009 Helpful features like POIs on the route, what's at the next upcoming exits, handsfree phone calls via bluetooth.
Effective Navigation with excellent planning functions.
Good Display.
I like it better than the TomToms and Garmins I've tested.
