Pleasantly surprised: good GPS for little $$$ November 25, 2008 After a year's use, I'm still pleased with the Pharos 150 GPS.
I mount it in various cars with a matching pair of 3" long self-adhesive Velcro strips stuck to the bottom edge. This GPS receives the satellite signal well enough to work dependably when positioned below the top of the dash and in front of the transparent instrument cluster or atop the steering column a few inches toward the driver from the instrument cluster... easy to see when driving and less obvious to potential thieves in parking lots. . Maps have been reasonably accurate; it seldom gives me erroneous directions. Easy to use. . For night driving, I turn the brightness down to 10% (annoying to do each time because it resets to 100% when turned off/on and it takes several separate button pushes.) It'd be better to simply have a neutral density (grey) transparent plastic filter to attach at night with Velco to the display: that'd be faster, have better light-reduction, and be easier to use.
Amazon is selling a great product at this price point!
Good for money November 4, 2008 I have this GPS since 2 months, and quite satisfied with it. The only concern is it does not show up the battery life. and dont show up the option to exclude the toll root.
its good for money $90.
DON'T NEED NO STINKIN' GPS October 28, 2008
Bright sunny Saturday, headed to the mall looking for a pedometer. National electronic store had a Sidewalk Sale. Nosed around looking for a pedometer... mebbe. The gal sitting beside the table [guarding it] asked if I had a GPS & that they had a clearance on a GOOD ONE !! I professed I didn't have nor need one. She ignores that remark and proceeded to show me what they had anyway. The more she explained her own travel experiences, the more interested I became. She proceeded with a thorough SHOW & TELL.
Take home now and bring back tomorrow if I didn't like, she said.
Yet I hesitated, thanked her for the demo and headed home.
That evening got on the internet looking for GPS stuff. Found AMAZON had the "Pharos 150"... ON SALE NO LESS !! The clincher was it emulated a "Tom-Tom" which my son has and travels all over the countryside in another state. Says his "Tom-Tom" did everything but wash the dishes !! Of course his was 3-4 times the cost of this one.
Went ahead and bought the Pharos 150. Am totally delighted with it. It even talks ! The GIRL barks directions and is very persistant. The several maps are clear, bright & detailed. Has latitude & Longitude~ 'walking mode'[I am a hiker]~ flat map and 3D map mode as well. So many features it is hard to list. Comes in several different colors too ! Mine is a perfect midnight blue.
Only fly in the ointment: the dash mount is cumbersome and [for me] doesn't work with my full size GM late model car.
Compact 4" square with 3 1/2" screen and only 5/8" thick. Fits nicely in coat pocket when out hiking.
Truly a delight to own. Would buy this one again. Am considering to even give as a gift.
Highly recommend this Pharos 150. AMAZON'S price couldn't be beat,IMO. I have dealt with them several times over the last 2~3 years. Always confident of a good experience with AMAZON.
Go ahead...grab the Pharos 150 from Amazon. You will love it.
GREAT PRODUCT October 28, 2008 THIS WORKED GREAT AND THE PRICE WAS PERFECT. I WILL BE NEEDING ANOTHER ONE AS GIFT.
As advertised October 28, 2008 Thanks. I was waiting patiently for a GPS system that was under $100. The Pharos was $99.00 with free shipping. The unit arrived and does what it is intended to do. There is a CD in place of a printed manual which makes it tough to answer a quick on-the-spot question but I'll deal with it. Overall...I am happy with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone who needs a no-frills, easy to use GPS.
