Great until it breaks and it will !! September 14, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I would agree with the other reviews on amazon up until the unit breaks, And it will break! I am led to believe there are a few thousand customers waiting for there broken units to be replaced. The only problem I had with the gps unit while it was working was in chicago, the unit was too slow to process the streets and you ended up passing the street as the unit said to turn. When the unit broke customer service was great "return it and in 5 to 7 days you will have a replacement" Well thats where it ended. It has been just short of 4 months and I'm still empty handed. I've called 8 to 10 times and they are now calling me with updates. Here is the typical update "we are still working on the issue but as of now we have no idea of what is going on and there is no way we can track anything that has or is being shipped." The last update I recieved at the end of august was that the shipment from overseas had been refused and sent back because of improper paperwork. I called today 9-14-07 and they still have no idea if they have stock, no idea if my replacement has been shipped, no idea how to find out any information at all. So Buyer Beware!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice screen, DVD playback, outdated maps and data July 27, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
My family and I just returned from a vacation trip to Boston and the Cape Cod area with only our MGX-0560 GPS to get us from place to place. I had pre-programmed most of the locations we wanted to visit and the suction cup mount made it a piece of cake to install in the rental car. After departing the Boston metro area, we decided to stop for lunch. As we wanted to try some of the local cuisine (seafood of course), we pulled up "Seafood Restaurant" on the GPS menu and picked a relatively close one at random. We were directed to a residential area with no restaurant in sight, so the Polaroid GPS failed its first real test because of outdated info. (Luckily, as the unit was steering us back to the main highway we found a very good seafood restaurant along the way, so it wasn't a completely wasted trip.) However, we did not attempt to use the restaurant location data after that. There were only a few instances of outdated map info that we observed (traffic circles that had been replaced by overpasses, for example) but other than providing a bit of confusion, it didn't really impact us significantly. The Polaroid GPS successfully got us from the Boston airport to Hyannis to Falmouth to Plymouth and back to Boston - and we never once looked at a map.
I love the huge screen and the voice prompts from the FM radio work very well, as does the DVD functionality. I am just a little concerned - OK A LOT concerned - about the availability of map and data updates for the Polaroid GPS units. The GPS FAQ at Polaroid's website showed availability of map updates in June 2007...then July 2007...then the proposed availability date info disappeared from the FAQ altogether. I called Polaroid's customer support and was told the map updates would be available in mid-August of 2007. Well, I'll believe it when I see it. It is only because of the update issue that I rate the Polaroid MGX-0560 a 4 instead of a 5.
UPDATE 08/01/2007: The backlight on my 2-month old MGX-0560 failed, rendering the unit unusuable. I have returned it and will not purchase another Polaroid GPS. Too bad, really, as I really liked - no, make that LOVED - the large screen and DVD.

I agree with everything Robert Shoemaker said. It is a fantastic unit that has more features than any other I have seen.
Polaroid GPS 5.6" Touchscreen with DVD November 7, 2006 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I just purchased this gps /dvd unit from target and i have to say it is great. the large 5.6 inch LCD screen is sharp, and the DVD playback is excellent. this GPS unit has it all. I give it 5 stars and the price for all it will do, is far below Garmin or tom tom with a smaller screen and no dvd player which is great on long car trips. it also plays CD's and JPEG picture Cd's. I say buy it, comes with all the stuff you need even a nice black tote bag. the car mount system is top notch, with a large strong suction cup that holds it very secure.
